Frequently Asked Questions

Admissions

How do admissions work when rolling, space available?

In some years, after the regular admissions rounds are complete, we may open a rolling, space-available review period.

During this time:

  • We prioritize candidates who applied during the standard rounds.
  • Once those applications are fully reviewed, we consider completed applications submitted during the rolling period.

We cannot guarantee space will be available, and we’re unable to provide updates on availability during the review process.

If rolling admissions are open, that information will be shared here

I don't have an undergraduate degree in statistics or computer science. Can I still apply to the UC Davis MSBA?

The requirements to qualify for the MSBA program are:

  • A bachelor’s degree equivalent to a four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree—16 total years of education. Alternatively a three-year undergraduate degree with a one-year postgraduate diploma or other graduate degreeTo determine if your degree program meets our requirements, review the expected level of study for international students.
  • Successful completion of coursework in these primary areas: computing, mathematics, statistics. For a detailed list of prerequisites click here
  • The prerequisite courses may be "in progress" at the time of applying but must be completed before beginning the MSBA program in the fall. Prerequisites cannot be taken concurrently with the MSBA curriculum.

Is work experience required for admission to the MSBA program?

Work experience is not required for admission to the UC Davis Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program. We admit a diverse mix of students—some come directly from undergraduate programs, while others bring several years of professional experience.

If you have an employment history, it will be considered as part of your overall profile. If you’re applying directly from college, internships and leadership roles are key to demonstrating your readiness.

Lack of post-undergraduate work experience will not put you at a disadvantage.

Do I need to submit official copies of my transcripts and test scores along with my MSBA application?

You may upload unofficial transcripts and test scores with your online application.

If you are admitted, UC Davis will require:

  • Official, sealed transcripts from all institutions attended, including any coursework completed after submitting your application.
  • Official test scores sent directly from the testing service.

What is the institutional code for UC Davis so that I can have score reports submitted?

We accept applications in multiple rounds throughout the year.

  • Round 3 is the priority deadline for both scholarship consideration and international applicants.
  • After Round 3, international applications may be reviewed on a space-available basis.

The MSBA program has one start date per year and begins in the summer quarter. It is offered full time only.

When will I hear back regarding my application?

While timelines may vary slightly depending on application volume, we aim to release decisions within 10 weeks of the round deadline under which you applied.

I have received a 3 year degree. What is the minimum/expected level of study to participate in this program?

The answer to this varies by the country you are coming from. For more details, visit the expected level of study for international students page.

Academics

Is it possible to work while completing the program?

It depends on your workload and personal capacity. Some students manage part-time jobs while completing the MSBA, but others find the program’s demands too intensive to balance with employment.

Part-time opportunities at UC Davis may be available, though they are not guaranteed.

We recommend assessing your time and energy before committing to outside work during the program.

What is a practicum?

The practicum project is your opportunity to turn classroom learning into real-world impact. Each year, MSBA students work with industry partners from a wide range of sectors and company sizes to solve real business problems using data. It’s hands-on, high-impact experience that sets you apart.

Is the program in-person, remote or hybrid?

Courses are taught in person at UC Hasting's San Francisco campus.

What is the typical weekly schedule?

While schedules vary by quarter based on course offerings and faculty availability, MSBA students typically attend class two to three days per week—usually a mix of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—with one to two classes per day.

The rest of the week is yours to:

  • Complete assignments
  • Collaborate with your practicum team
  • Network with peers and professionals
  • Explore everything San Francisco has to offer

Is there any opportunity for internships to count as course credit?

This may vary year to year, but there is a possibility for internships to count as an elective credit during the program.
